The Philadelphia Zoo is the oldest zoo in America. It was licensed in March 1859. It is a fantastic, family-friendly park housing 1,300 animals. Besides, it is a great historical place related to the many years of successful zoology in the United States. The 42 acres area houses the Big Cat Falls, habitat of lions, tigers and jaguars, and the Rare Animal Conservation Center. It takes a full day to explore all the exhibits. It opens daily.
Another old and a very large zoo is the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden. It was opened not long after the Philadelphia Zoo in 1875. It has acquired an honored place in zoo history as the second zoo in the United States. It has a great collection of endangered species and plants, including Indian rhinos, cheetahs, macaws, Brazilian ocelots, and Western Lowland gorillas. The zoo has been unofficially nicknamed as the “Sexiest Zoo in America” because of the breeding programs for these endangered species. It opens daily.
Founded in 1909, the Fort Worth Zoo in Texas has been proclaimed as the top zoo in the nation by Family Life, USA Today, and the Los Angeles Times. It is a well formed and very attractive zoo having more than 350 species from every continent excluding Antarctica. Special attention has been given to the native flora and fauna of Texas. The feature exhibit, Texas Wild! , explains about the varied wildlife of the Lone Star State , as well as presents a historic glimpse back at the turn-of-the-century Texas by recreating a real town from the early 1900’s.
The Audubon Zoo located in New Orleans is a pleasant blend of the old and new. Though it has been renovated in the 21st century, it still preserves the old architecture related to the early 20th century. Today the park is both old-world and world-class. The Louisiana Swamp having most popular white alligators is the most famous exhibit. Another attraction is a pair of two royal white tiger brothers. A large number of people from all over the country come to visit them. The Audubon Zoo also houses a large aquarium, insectariums and IMAX Theatre.
